The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Bodybuilding
Posted in Affiliate General Tips
Most beginners jump into advanced splits designed for experienced bodybuilders — chest day, back day, arm day — when research consistently shows full-body training 3x per week produces faster muscle growth for beginners. Your nervous system and muscles both need to be trained frequently to adapt. Save the isolation work and bro splits for when you’ve built a real foundation.
Every week, you need to lift slightly more than last week — either more weight, more reps, or less rest. This principle, called progressive overload, is the single most important driver of muscle growth. Keep a training log. Track every set and rep. If you’re not consistently doing more than the previous week, you’re not growing. Simple, hard, non-negotiable.
To build muscle you need to eat in a slight caloric surplus (250–500 calories above maintenance) with adequate protein (0.8–1g per pound of bodyweight). Protein sources: chicken, eggs, beef, fish, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt. Time your largest meals around training. Don’t overthink it — consistency in hitting your protein and calorie targets beats any fancy nutrition protocol.
Muscle is built during rest, not during training. Training is the stimulus; sleep and nutrition are where the growth actually happens. Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep per night, limit alcohol (which dramatically impairs protein synthesis), and don’t train the same muscle group two days in a row. Soreness isn’t a requirement for growth — it’s just inflammation.
